Zilola Imomova

Zilola Imomova is a lawyer, human rights and art activist from Tajikistan. Zilola currently works at the NGO Office of Civil Freedoms as an assistant lawyer.  She also coordinates the Coworking Center for Youth, Coworking Space TUT, which gives youth an opportunity to develop and achieve their potential.   

Zilola is an expert in monitoring the human rights of conscripts, minorities and social orphans. She has experience in human rights education and raises awareness of human rights among young people in Tajikistan. As an art activist, she trains the younger talented generation to protest the violation of human rights using art-performance and products. Zilola has also worked with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) as part of the development team for their human rights monitoring game ‘Starlight Stadium’.

During her fellowship, Zilola will examine the issue of extremism and its impact on society, integrating aspects of human rights and the arts to develop an educational programme to combat extremism. She will reflect on her own practice as a human rights defender, but also connect with other activists who are working in the creative arts to win change, and combat extremism and hate.
