Laura Lennox

Journalist

Laura grew up in South Africa spending much time in townships across rural Limpopo. The effects of inequality and deprivation on people’s lives rooted the desire in her to create change. She went on to study Human Geography, submitting her dissertation to the Refugee Integration Strategy of Northern Ireland. While working with an international relief organisation in the US she travelled to Northern Iraq to complete a needs-based assessment in a Yazidi IDP camp.

The human stories of strength and resilience she heard led her to complete a Masters in Broadcast Journalism at City, University of London. She now works at UTV in Belfast and does relief shifts at a homeless hostel in east Belfast.

During her fellowship she will create a video series to foster healthier attitudes towards those living on the margins in Northern Ireland. Each story will provide an opportunity for viewers to learn of common ground and to see beyond stereotypes.
