On 25th June 2024, SCI hosted the Hardwiring Fairness Conference where attendees discussed how governments worldwide are implementing legislative models to reduce inequalities and improve wellbeing and explored adopting best practices in Northern Ireland to ensure better life chances for present and future generations
The event welcomed a group of national experts including Jane Davidson, author of '#futuregen: Lessons from a Small Country', Sarah Davidson from Carnegie UK, Jonathan Tench and Catryn Holzinger from The Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, and Dave Williams from Queen Elizabeth's High School. They discussed the Well-being of Future Generations Act of 2016, its planning, implementation, and impact so far.
A diverse group of local experts, including Amie Gallagher from Focus Project, Daniel Holder from the Committee on the Administration of Justice, Dawn Shackels from Community Foundation NI , and Margaret Kelly from the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman enhanced the discussion by offering a Northern Ireland perspective on developing legislative approaches to tackle deep-seated issues, reduce inequalities, and improve wellbeing.
